Nissan has released a video deep dive of the local engineering program for the new Navara, revealing how the soon-to-be-revealed pickup has undergone rigorous local testing, tuning and validation in Australia by Premcar to meet the specific demands of Trans-Tasman customers.
“In Australia and New Zealand, the ute is just part of life – the weekday workhorse, the weekend adventurer, even the school drop-off,” said Tim Davis, Senior Manager Local Product Development and Enhancement, Nissan Australia.
“So we can’t just take a ute from another market and assume it’ll fit. It has to be fine-tuned because the conditions we face are totally unique to this part of the world.”
Nissan worked with Premcar
Nissan worked with Premcar, Australia’s renowned automotive engineering specialist and creator of the Warrior series of serious off-road hardware, to develop and test the new Navara’s suspension. The program put the vehicle through a myriad of real-world scenarios across a range of Australian conditions.
“We were cooperating with Premcar to make sure all the ride and handling performance we want from the new Navara is delivered,” Davis said.
“They’ve put it through a brutal local tuning and testing program right here in Australia.”
Premcar’s testing covered the full spectrum of use cases — a range of terrain and road types, from unladen to maximum payload capacity, as well as towing performance, across all conditions, including urban driving and off-road.
“The aim is simple – to deliver a ute that excels in all scenarios,” said Davis.
Nissan localises engineering
Warwick Daly, Deputy Director Marketing & Mobility, Nissan Australia says the Navara program builds on Nissan’s commitment to local engineering.
“For almost four decades, we’ve been engineering and thoroughly evaluating cars locally, including generation on generation of utes and off-roaders. It’s about ensuring Australians and New Zealanders can have complete confidence – knowing your vehicle will perform when and how you expect it to.
“The new Navara is the product of local engineering experience and know-how. It’s tuned and tested for our customers.”
The domestic testing and tuning spotlight is the final of three teaser films leading up to the November 19 global unveiling of the new Navara.
The new Navara will officially launch in the Australian and New Zealand markets in the first half of 2026, backed by Nissan’s comprehensive ownership program, which includes the Nissan MORE 10-year/300,000km warranty when serviced with Nissan1.
New Nissan Navara October update
Nissan Navara – On 19 November, 2025, Nissan will officially unveil the next generation of Navara. In the lead-up to this unveil, Nissan has released a short teaser film. Celebrating the iconic pickup’s remarkable heritage in Australia and New Zealand.
- Nissan unveils heritage film celebrating Navara’s journey from 1986 workhorse to modern lifestyle vehicle
- The countdown officially begins to the 19 November global reveal of the new Nissan Navara
Since its Australian debut in December 1986, the Navara has evolved. From a simple, honest workhorse into one of the country’s most trusted and versatile pickup trucks. With over 420,000 vehicles sold across the continent.
The heritage film, part of Nissan’s “Defy Ordinary” campaign, traces the Navara’s evolution through four decades of Australian life. From early morning starts on construction sites to boat ramps and weekend family adventures. Showcasing how the vehicle has continuously adapted to meet changing Australian and New Zealand needs.
“For nearly 40 years, Navara has been writing its story alongside Australia’s own evolution,” said Andrew Humberstone, Managing Director, Nissan Oceania.
“Every generation has learned from the previous one, and every Australian customer has taught us something about what matters most in a ute.”
The film demonstrates how insights gathered over four decades have shaped the development of the new Navara. From understanding the unique demands of Australian conditions. To recognising the evolving needs of modern Aussie and Kiwi families and businesses.
Heritage Informing Innovation
The new Navara will draw on this heritage, incorporating design elements that pay homage to previous generations while delivering the advanced capability and technology today’s drivers demand.
The development team has guided the vehicle’s development by lessons learned from hundreds of thousands of Australian and New Zealand customers who have chosen Navara as their trusted partner.
Building Toward November 19
The heritage film is part of the lead-up to the global unveiling of the new Navara on November 19, 2025.
The new Navara will officially launch in Australian and New Zealand markets in the first half of 2026. Marking the beginning of the nameplate’s fifth decade of success in Australia and New Zealand.
